COLLEGE VISIT ABSENCES AND VACATION ABSENCES– Please read carefully

Please remember that seniors are allowed up to 3 absence-free college visits 1st semester only! Juniors are allowed up to 3 absence-free college visits 2nd semester only.

College visits WILL count as an absence if they exceed the number allowed, are taken at a time other than the designated semester, and/or if a pre-arranged absence form is not completed by the student at least 3 days in advance of the visit.

As with college visit absences, prearranged absence forms must be filled out 3-4 school days ahead of time, especially for extended holiday travel and college visits.  Notification and arrangement of classroom work/tests to be completed prior to departure make for an easier and proactive return to the classroom.  Please have your student stop by the main office for this form, if needed.

SERVICE HOURS: VOLUNTEERING INFORMATION AND OPPORTUNITIES             Hackett Catholic Prep utilizes the website www.x2vol.com for managing the service hour requirement for our students.  There, students can read updates and reminders about service hours, see service opportunities, and submit information about the service hours they've completed for review and approval.

The following are the minimum yearly requirements:

Freshman:  20 hours to family, community, parish and/or HCP

Sophomores:  20 hours to community, parish and/or HCP

*Juniors:  20 hours to community, parish and/or HCP

*Seniors:  20 hours to community, parish and /or HCP

*Juniors and Seniors - A minimum of 10 service hours of your year's requirement must be completed at a pre-approved, non-profit agency, which are listed on x2vol’s Bulletin Board. New for 2016-2017: You may submit up to 5 hours of service at your place of worship towards your 10 hours of non-profit service requirement.  The other 5 hours of service MUST be completed at any of the pre-approved, non-profit agencies previously mentioned.

Also new for 2016-2017 - Service hours must be entered on x2vol within 90 days of their completion. Otherwise, the hours will be denied, and will not be counted towards your yearly goal.

Please note:  Hours spent tutoring siblings, or doing family chores as a sophomore, junior or senior are not acceptable towards your service hour requirement.

Logging all your hours, not just your required 20, on x2vol will be helpful to you as a junior and senior, as you will be able to print off a transcript and submit that for job and college applications.

Important Dates for Service Hours:

  • December 6, 2016:  First 10 hours of service must be submitted for approval on x2vol.
  • May 2, 2017:  All 20 hours of service hours must be submitted for approval on x2vol.

HCP MAILING LIST

If you know of somebody who is not signed up to receive these weekly emails, please forward this to them and encourage them to email Mr. Kosmerick at bkosmerick@hackettcp.org or text HCPMONDAY to 22828, to get started!

BUILDING SECURITY

Your student may have told you of a few changes regarding drop off and accessible doors in the morning.  To improve the safety of our building, the entrance doors by the library will remain locked before school.  You may still drop off students at that spot.  We just ask the students to come in through the main entrance (by the office).  In addition, the doors down in the lower foyer will remain locked until 7:15 am.  At that time, an adult will unlock the doors and stand down in that area until 7:45 am.  If students drive to school and arrive before 7:15 am, we ask that they walk up the stairs and enter the building through the main entrance.

PARENT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

We look forward to seeing our parent volunteers this year! Please remember, all volunteers need to complete a Criminal Background Check form, which can be located by clicking here: http://images.pcmac.org/SiSFiles/Schools/MI/CatholicSchoolsKalamazoo/HackettCatholicCentralHigh/Uploads/Forms/CBC.pdf

These forms must be returned to the Main Office, in person, with a valid picture ID. (If you have a Criminal Background Check form completed at one of our elementary schools, please let their office know that you would like a copy sent to HCP.)

All volunteers must also attend a live VIRTUS training. You can register for a class online at VIRTUS.org. A VIRTUS training session will be held at Hackett on Wednesday, October 14, but there are earlier dates available at other locations. (If you have attended a VIRTUS training in the past, please log on to your account and add Hackett Catholic Prep as an “additional location”.)

BOTH of these requirements must be completed BEFORE volunteering. Thank you.

NOTES FROM THE MAIN OFFICE

Medication Release Forms MUST be filled out by a physician for EACH medication that is carried (inhalers) or stored in the main office - prescription or over the counter (OTC).  The forms are on the website under the Parents Tab.  Diocesan policy states that we must have a new form filled out by the student's physician each year for each medication.

THE SACRAMENTAL RECORD FORM

Incoming freshman and new students are asked to fill out the sacramental record form and return it to the main office attention Fr. Adams/Mrs. Rider.  The forms were mailed home and are also available in the main office.

PARKING PASSES

Are available in the Main Office for the one-time, low price of $5. You must fill out a form if you have not done so in the past.
